The Show Horse

The path to becoming a show horse is much more complicated than most people would like to believe. Preferably, a young cutting horse will work its first flag before July of its 2 year old year. In August, it will get its first taste of working a cow. From there, just like a conditioned athlete, the horse will work on repetition, muscle memory, and learning how to read a cow.

Mark will tell you that he trains a "cow horse." While there are many different training styles, he trains his horses to independently read and work a cow, focusing on a boxing-like technique to control the cow.
